Russell Thomas

Russell Thomas is the Director of Communications and Community Impact at the United Way of Fort McMurray. He is also a strategic communicator, facilitator and connector with Birdsong Connections.

A prolific user of social media, Russell is also a regular blogger, freelance writer, artist, actor, and arts champion. He has been delivering workshops for the social profit sector for a number of years, and continues to evolve and grow his facilitation techniques. A resident of Fort McMurray since 1996, Russell spent 15 years at Keyano College in a variety of roles following a decade long career in the radio broadcasting business. He likes to say he is a “recovered” politician, having served three years as a municipal councillor.

Russell is married to his business and life partner, Heather, and has two sons, Dylan and Ben. When he’s not acting, painting, or communicating on social media, he is likely to be found fishing at the river.
